We seek consensus about the Book of Mormon. Joseph F. Smith wrote, "If you have built for a man a better house than his own, and he is willing to accept yours and forsake his, then, and not till then, should you proceed to tear down the old structure. Rotten though it may be it will require some time for it to lose all its charms and fond memories of its former occupant. Therefore let him, not you, proceed to tear it away. Kindness and courtesy are the primal elements of gentility."

straight-on wisdom
straight-on wisdom from Mrs. Dr. Publius.

As I drive to work in the morning, I have a routine in my vehicle. I listen to the headline news, think about the day ahead at work, and my mind often drifts to random topics. It is utterly exhausting sometimes to consider all of the problems our country faces - it seems insurmountable at times.
If I were able to advise my younger self about the vicissitudes of life - I would ponder these ideas.
1. Take the time to remain engaged in our culture while you are building your careers - your family, friends and local communities need you.
2. Say I am sorry twice as much as you say I love you - if you do the first, the second is implied.
3. The truth of history is never really revealed until all of the actors are dead.
4. Discover why you exist for this particular moment in time.
5. A keen intellect, a generous heart, and a forgiving soul are a fiercely potent triad in the human person.
6. Humility is more valuable than acknowledgement/honors/recognition.
7. Never stop asking why but more importantly, carefully weigh what you do with the answer.
8. Use your platform wisely - to do good for others first and not to solely focus on ways to enrich yourself. If you practice your craft/skill/profession correctly, money will follow.
9. Never forget the sacrifices of those who came before you, cherish the precious gift of the loved ones with which we share our world, and consider what intangible gifts you will leave for the future.
10. Take a breath occasionally and just be grateful for life.
What would you advise your younger self?
