contention

The prevalence of a spirit of contention amongst a people is a certain sign of deadness with respect to the things of religion. When men's spirits are hot with contention, they are cold to religion. - Jonathan Edwards “The Book of Mormon does not supplant the Bible. It expands, extends, clarifies, and amplifies our knowledge of the Savior. Surely, this second witness should be cause for great rejoicing by all Christians.” - Joseph B. Wirthlin

Be useful to a lot of people

ELON: IT’S INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO BE USEFUL TO A LOT OF PEOPLE “Try to be as useful as possible. It may sound trite, but it's so hard to be useful, especially to be useful to a lot of people, where you say the area under the curve of total utility is how useful have you been to your fellow human beings times how many people? It's almost like the physics definition of true work. It's incredibly difficult to do that. And I think if you aspire to do true work, your probability of success is much higher. Don't aspire to glory, aspire to work.”

straight-on wisdom

straight-on wisdom from Mrs. Dr. Publius. 👩‍⚕️🫡 ___________________________ As I drive to work in the morning, I have a routine in my vehicle. I listen to the headline news, think about the day ahead at work, and my mind often drifts to random topics. It is utterly exhausting sometimes to consider all of the problems our country faces - it seems insurmountable at times. If I were able to advise my younger self about the vicissitudes of life - I would ponder these ideas. 1. Take the time to remain engaged in our culture while you are building your careers - your family, friends and local communities need you. 2. Say I am sorry twice as much as you say I love you - if you do the first, the second is implied. 3. The truth of history is never really revealed until all of the actors are dead. 4. Discover why you exist for this particular moment in time. 5. A keen intellect, a generous heart, and a forgiving soul are a fiercely potent triad in the human person. 6. Humility is more valuable than acknowledgement/honors/recognition. 7. Never stop asking why but more importantly, carefully weigh what you do with the answer. 8. Use your platform wisely - to do good for others first and not to solely focus on ways to enrich yourself. If you practice your craft/skill/profession correctly, money will follow. 9. Never forget the sacrifices of those who came before you, cherish the precious gift of the loved ones with which we share our world, and consider what intangible gifts you will leave for the future. 10. Take a breath occasionally and just be grateful for life. What would you advise your younger self?

Fun of learning

If you're not having fun, you're not learning. There's a pleasure in finding things out.
