contention

The prevalence of a spirit of contention amongst a people is a certain sign of deadness with respect to the things of religion. When men's spirits are hot with contention, they are cold to religion. - Jonathan Edwards “The Book of Mormon does not supplant the Bible. It expands, extends, clarifies, and amplifies our knowledge of the Savior. Surely, this second witness should be cause for great rejoicing by all Christians.” - Joseph B. Wirthlin

AI and retaining knowledge

Excerpt:

Again, as in Roman times, it’s not as if we do not have scientific research showing that reliance on AI has negative effects on the knowledge base, skills and critical thinking abilities of human beings.

Real cognitive atrophy occurs. I’ve seen it in my own students. AI can write their papers for them, but if I sit down with them one on one and ask probing questions, even basic factual ones, the students are at sea. They have offloaded knowledge retention to an external source.

In fact, the very idea of exerting mental effort to retain knowledge seems anathema to them.

_____

I would that ye should remember, and always retain in remembrance, the greatness of God, and your own nothingness, and his goodness and long-suffering towards you, unworthy creatures, and humble yourselves even in the depths of humility, calling on the name of the Lord daily, and standing steadfastly in the faith of that which is to come, which was spoken by the mouth of the angel.

(Mosiah 4:11)
